ACADEMIC PROGRAMS ON TERRORISM


    Regarding academic programs on terrorism, I know of no formal programs that will offer issue any degree on terrorism. Rather, it is usually a focus within a recognized academic discipline such as international affairs, political science, history, public policy, etc. However, increasingly many technical schools, community colleges, and law enforcement programs are offering “counterterrorism” concentrations which provide avenues into the homeland security field – ie., emphases on prevention, detection of, and response to terrorism rather academic studies into the origins and continuation of terrorism.

    Perhaps the most prestigious and internationally well-known program can be found at the Centre for the Study of Terrorism and Political Violence at St. Andrew’s University in Scotland.
